Katie Couric is set to host a weekly talk show on Yahoo, focusing on health, nutrition, and wellness. Reports indicate this came about thanks to Yahoo's relationship with ABC News. Even more interesting, reports indicate that Yahoo is second only to YouTube as a video destination.

Quick Note on Health
I've said this before, because I am living proof that you can actually injure yourself simply by sitting in front of the computer, but I am going to say it again: GET OUT OF YOUR CHAIR!
For the last few weeks, I was convinced I had a cramp just to the left of my right shoulder blade from holding the mouse, but it turned out that my lung had almost collapsed (actually, it may well have; I haven't had it seen yet)! The only way I figured this out (again, for myself, as this all unfolded over the weekend) is that I started stretching, trying to work-out the cramp I thought I had, and something... just kinda "popped" or something and I started coughing.
I know this is gross, but it is what it is, and I'm discussing it because it could be serious. I just had surgery to correct my sinuses, so that probably has as much to do with it as anything else, but had I been moving around, stretching and exercising, like all of us who work at computers are supposed to do regularly, I don't think this would have happened.
So, once again, let me reiterate how important it is to get up, stretch, and move around regularly.

Sorry guys, something's wrong with my stomach and it kept me out literally all last week. There were changes to my medication, which could be to blame, but I may have an ulcer. Too soon to tell, but I'm back for now and will be cranking-out posts as soon as I can.

The Mountains of e-Waste
Experts are worried about the "mountains of e-waste" piling-up in many foreign countries. Discarded monitors, computer towers, and other electronic goods are stacking-up in countries like India, China, Mexico, and portions of Africa, and experts say it is a danger to public health.
The amount of such waste is growing at a rate of about 40 tons annually, worldwide. Much of the older equipment ends-up in developing countries, which extract precious materials from them. However, not all of the countries actually possess the means by which to do so efficiently and the methods which they employ harm the atmosphere.
Experts urge these developing nations to shift their focus toward establishing state-of-the-art processing centers to alleviate the hazards which are, at this time, relatively low, but are set to increase dramatically in coming years.

Still Recovering
As I posted elsewhere and have reminded you all several times lately, I am still recovering from surgery I had over six weeks ago. The last several weeks, it has been particularly touch-and-go and I'm already off the painkillers (which I'm not sure I should be), so it's been particularly difficult these last few days.
This blog has been spotty from Jumpstreet and I've apologized for that almost as often as for being laid-up, but there it is. As always, I'm doing what I can, so I only ask you bear with me a bit longer. Thanks!

Surgery Lets You See in HD
Surgeons in the UK are perfecting a procedure which allows people to see in high-definition (HD). The procedure starts-off the same way it does for patients with cataracts. Once the lenses are in place, they can actually be fine-tuned using ultraviolet lights which affect the curvature of the lens, up to several days after the initial operation. Finally, a blast adheres the lenses and affixes them permanently.
According to experts, it restores vision to that of one's youth. Further, few people over 40 are able to appreciate HD TV because of macular degeneration and this surgery fixes that.

Sick Days
I apologize, guys. I got really, really sick Thursday night (through Friday morning). I suffered body-wracking heaving and wretching for hours on-end. I'm still sore, as I write this. I had to put-off all of my plans and will have to rush next week to get to them, so I don't know if this will affect the Halloween roll-out or not.
In general, I have enough new content that I think I will still make a good holiday roll-out and I can then add more the following week, but I'd really hoped to bring you entire departments and the like. We'll see how it goes, but for now, just be sure to check the site next Saturday. (and, of course, I'll keep you updated.)

Jobs Returns to Apple
Apple's Steve Jobs is set to return to work sometime this month, though it may only be part-time. Jobs co-founded the computer giant back in 1976, but left the company in the 1980s. Upon his return in 1997, Apple made a big comeback, and many attribute this success to none other than Steve Jobs. In 2000, Jobs became the full-time chief executive in 2000.
Five months ago, he vacated his post, citing health issues. A pancreatic cancer survivor, Jobs said he was being treated for a "hormone imbalance," but provided no details. Today, a newspaper said Steve Jobs underwent a liver transplant two months ago. While this has not yet been confirmed by anyone in the Jobs camp 1, it has since been widely-reported.
Apple's stock price has fluctuated according to news of Jobs' health and return to work.

1: To my knowledge. It has not been confirmed as of this morning, though the story has since been repeated by all of the major news outlets. I did not feel like surfing through dozens of articles on dial-up (a process which would have taken at least an hour) just to find out if it had been confirmed yet. As always, I'll update the post in the Comments, should anything change.

Beware the Flood, Agenda
I detailed my health fight this week over to The Rundown, so I won't repeat it here, but I wanted to mention that several of the posts going out today should have come out at various times throughout the week, I just didn't finish any of them in time. There will be several today and then I will probably settle back into a rhythm. It just depends on what I get done, when.
